Mountain View, AR

Mountain View, in proportion to its population, is as much a music town as Nashville, Austin, and the relevant neighborhoods in LA and New York. Its reputation as a traditional music mecca began in the early sixties and many old-time, bluegrass, and other players have come to play and then stay. With the Ozark Folk Center as a base for them, as well as for an array of craftspeople, the community is a blend of Ozark traditional life, contemporary plugged-in, rural America, and arts sensibilities. This mix of people in a setting of graceful Ozark ridges and valleys, rivers and streams for fishing and swimming, caverns, biking and hiking trails, and just enough shops, restaurants, interesting places to stay, and unique features such as free-for-all “picking” (jams) around the town square combine to draw thousands of visitors annually.
