portrait_02Welcome! After years of my stealing time for it, the songwriting has now moved to center stage. I hope you’ll drop by here from time to time to listen and see what’s new. My songs will range over Americana, contemporary country, old-style rock and roll and, well, who knows? Besides the originals you’ll find selections from the Ozark/Appalachian traditional tunes that thrive here in Mountain View, Arkansas.

fiddle1bwWhen my regular old-time band, Chinkypin, didn’t get around to a recording project in time for my website launch, I called Emily Phillips. She began in the “Roots Music” program in Stone County’s schools, in which Ozark Folk Center musicians teach old-time music and instruments as an addition to the standard music program. Adept in traditional styles on both fiddle and banjo, Emily immediately agreed to do a project with me. We went into Joe Jewell’s studio here in Mountain View and turned out “The Blackest Crow.” Since then, she finished high school, took a fiddling trip to Scotland, and started a college honors program. What a pleasure to work with this young lady!
